How to migrate from Centos to AlmaLinux?

Introduction:

CentOS 8 reaches end-of-life (EOL) on December 31, 2021. Alot of companies and users used Centos for long time. They will not receive any updates or support after Centos reach EOL. so, this document explains the easy way to migrate from Centos to AlmaLinux.

Migrating from Centos to AlmaLinux:

1. Ensure that your server has the latest updates and latest package available:
dnf clean all
dnf -y update

2. Reboot the server to make sure it boots the latest kernel:

reboot

3. Download the AlmaLinux deploy scrips to your server
curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AlmaLinux/almalinux-deploy/master/almalinux-deploy.sh
4. Run the following command to migrate from centos to AlmaLinux
bash almalinux-deploy.sh

5. Verify the installed OS

cat /etc/redhat-release


5. The result should resemble the following example

AlmaLinux release 8.4 (Electric Cheetah)
